Everything is magical when you take the steps towards your dreams! This is a tail of whiskers and fuzzy bums. For the past 15 years, I've followed my heart and volunteered with various animal care and conservation organizations including the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., a wildlife refuge on the Emerald Coast of Florida, a wildlife conservation center in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia and farm sanctuaries here in the Pacific Northwest.
This past weekend the journey towards working with animals to offer natural pet care continued at the pristine Northwest School of Animal Massage (NWSAM) nestled on a 12-acre farm on Vashon Island in the Puget Sound just west of Seattle, WA. Lola Michelin, Founder of NWSAM where she serves as Director of Education, has been practicing animal massage and offering specialized enrichment courses for over 20 years. The land, the animals and her students all blossom under her heart-centered tutelage.
The next class was Essential Oils for Animals taught by Joni Sorita. This class covered popular essential oils, various blends and their effects on the health and well-being of animals. I'm now counting the days to complete the Aromatics for Animals Certification offered by Joni at this school this summer.
Thrilled for the days of 2015 ahead to be full of paws, hooves and happy tails!
As a Master Practitioner in the Usui System of Natural Healing known as Usui Reiki Ryoho, it was exciting to receive my attunement during the Reiki I for Animals session with Lola. Reiki is a type of healing art with Japanese roots that is applied through a series of hand positions corresponding with energy centers in the body for human and four-legged beings. Reiki is based on the belief that a "life force energy" flows through all of us providing pathways to natural healing.
